Gran's Chocolate Pie

1 cup sugar
2 T. cocoa
6 T. flour
2 cups of milk(I use the large pet or evaporated milk which is 1 & 3/4 cup and add regular milk to make it 2 cups)
3 eggs, separated(use the 3 egg whites for meringue)

Put all of the above ingredients into a boiler.  Add the milk gradually to the dry mixture to make a paste and then it will be liquid (this is to keep the lumps down but you will have lumps don't worry.)

Cook until mixture thickens.  Add 1 T. butter and 1 t. vanilla.   Set aside while you make the meringue.

Meringue

3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter

Beat this mixture until soft peaks form then add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and gradually add 6 tablespoons of sugar.
Beat this until firm peaks form.

Then take the mixer (do not clean beaters) and beat the chocolate mixture to smooth out the lumps and mix the vanilla and butter.  When it bakes the lumps won't be there.

Pour into a BAKED pie shell and top with meringue. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown.
